About the Author
Irving Chernev (1900-1981) was a Russian-American chess author who wrote over 20 books, including the bestselling "Invitation to Chess" (with Kenneth Harkness; Ishi Press) and "Logical Chess: Move By Move" (Batsford). Fred Reinfeld (1910-1964) was a prolific chess author whose writing was admired for its deceptive simplicity and clarity.

Wonderful to see a classic book reprinted

A classic book reprinted, I believe Batsford had a reprint of "Winning Chess" that's still available right now but this book was required study by a Life Master that was coaching me, the subtitle was see 3 moves ahead and helped you meet that goal. One thing I have to agree with the other review that Amazon crushes books now and makes a chess book collecter, such as myself, unable to receive a undamaged book. I have started buying chess books from other dealers (Chess for Less, Chess House, US Chess Fed) now as Amazon doesn't consider undamaged books worthy of their efforts or my money.

Chernev Gets Four Stars, Amazon Gets a Discovered Check

Content is great for a beginner studying tactics--four stars.
Although not associated with the contents of this great book, I'll also mention that half of the books that I get from Amazon arrive bent (like this book, which arrived via paper mailer), so I'll now consider competitors (e.g., Powell's). I've already returned several that were just way over the line. I understand that shipment experiences vary, but this is the last straw for me, price or not.
My apologies for the rant, but this was a long anticipated book.
